Are you too close to your business to see the possibilities?

When we ask Founders what their biggest challenges are, they often don't vary far from:

- Resource

- Budget

- Competition

When I ask about mindset, I often get a bemused look. The response, on more than one occasion has been "What's that got to do with the challenges we're facing?" Actually, a lot.

Incumbents in all industries are sleepwalking into obsolescence because they're blinded by the past. Employees have been in their respective industry for so long that they aren't looking outside of their bubble for inspiration. Why should they? They know their industry, they know their business, right?

Start-ups have been gaining significant traction for one main reason - they approach their environment with intelligent naivety. They aren't blinkered by the past; they aren't restricted to doing things the way they have always been done. They aren't afraid to try new things.

Let's take <Insert challenger bank name>. They have taken inspiration from outside the traditional way of doing things and realised that many customers are more interested in the user experience and instant accessibility than they are about being able to walk in to a branch.

As we approach the end of the year, whether you are an entrepreneur or intrapreneur, our question to you is this; what are you doing to change from the status-quo to stand out from the crowd?
